What Makes a Country Home?

Many people ask what makes a country home?

A country home is a state of mind. Your country home can truly be in the country, or it can be in the heart of a large city. Country is a feeling. It is the well loved quilt you snuggle under on a chilly evening. It is the teddy bear that you and your children, or grand-children can't live without. It is the collectible toys and home accents that others may think of as clutter.

Is your kitchen the kind your great-grandmother would have been proud to bake pies in? Do your brown-betty tea pots and cast iron skillets remind you of simpler times? A country home has fluttering curtains or wooden shutters and smells of a soft breeze or flowers. A country home has braided rugs on the floors, or rich thick pile rugs that just beg you to wiggle your toes down deep. A country home invites you to snuggle on the sofa or oversize chair and read a good book. The beds are big and bouncy with quilts, comforters and dust ruffles. A country home has wood furnishings. (No chrome please.) The wood is highly polished or well worn, again the wood conveys a feeling.

As you can see a country home can be many things. It should be well lived in and well loved. It should be a place that you want to come home to, your haven from the rest of the world. Most of all a country home should be Cozy and Comfortable.
